The Cristal
process combines ultrafiltration and adsorption on powdered
activated carbon (PAC).
This involves injecting powdered carbon into untreated water.
This material, made up of pores, acts as a trap for certain
undesirable molecules (pesticides, micro-pollutants, organic
matter, etc.) that are smaller than the pores of ultrafiltration
membranes. The powdered activated carbon contained in the
untreated water will then itself be retained by the ultrafiltration
membranes.

The Aquasource
ultrafiltration process |
This physical treatment process is only
possible due to the presence of a recirculation loop that works
as a reactor which concentrates the carbon particles.
The Cristal
process is a Degrémont
product.
